NNWFHS Meetings & Events

Family History is one of the most pleasurable and engrossing leisure activities today.  It is very interesting but can be a daunting task for the beginner.

The NNWFHS started life as the Nuneaton Family History Group.  Because of our rapidly increasing membership and the family interests that many of our members have in North Warwickshire we expanded  and changed our name to reflect this in April 1998.  In 2009 we reviewed our working area again and included a few new parishes.

We welcome all levels of interest.  If you are starting out, we can set you on the right path and show you how and where to access the records you need.  If you are stuck, we can show you where to go next.  We can also help you to find other people who share your surname interests. We cannot help you to find living relatives but we do understand that you may wish to find long-lost cousins. Click here to go to the FAQS page for some links that may help you to find living people.

We have a growing number of members from all over the world as well as the far corners of the UK.  We appreciate the difficulties experienced by our ‘far flung’ members, and help to make them feel part of the society through our website, quarterly journal, personal correspondence, and email helplines.

We hold monthly meetings and family history help desks at local libraries. Click the PDF logo (use Ctrl + Click to open in new tab) below for details of our current programmes of events.

The Society produces a wide range ofpublications.  Online subscription accessto baptism, marriage and burialtranscriptions is also available.
The list of publications grows includingunique or privately held items — newcontributions or suggestions welcome! We also have several transcribed indexesfor material previously at Lichfield RO which cover the full diocesan area.  The online shop is regularly updated. On our front page you will see that this is accessed via Parish Chest. There are discounts for members. The expanded booklet “What is Where for
North Warwickshire-Church of EnglandParishes, Civil Registration Districts, PoorLaw Unions & Municipal Burial Grounds” isan essential for all with roots in the area. Itincludes an outline of the development ofparish registers, plus parishes map, detailsof civil registration in the area along with aplaces/registration districts chart and listsof Poor Law Unions and Municipal burialgrounds. The Nuneaton & North Warwickshire Family History Society is run by a committee of elected volunteer members.  The committee is a relatively small group of individuals who give their time freely, and generously, to work for the benefit of our Society and for family history in north Warwickshire generally.  The committee is elected annually at a general meeting.  How to become a committee member, along with an outline the work of committee members, can be read by clicking on the following link (pdf document)  The Role of Committee Members.

The Constitution for the Society can be read by clicking on the following link (pdf document) Our Constitution.
