: 9th August 1917, aged 25.

On August 9th 1917 SS Blagdon was torpedoed and damaged in the North Sea 75 nautical miles (139 km) east by south of Muckle Flugga, Shetland Islands by SM U-78 with the loss of 12 crew. The ship was abandoned by the remaining crew and later sunk by SM U-100.
