We will welcome Chris Broom to give a presentation about Humour in Genealogy. A light-hearted walk through a variety of genealogical records, reinforcing the value of scrutinising original documents. Chris is a graduate of the Institute of Heraldic and Genealogical Studies, Canterbury, where he has recently been appointed as a course tutor. We have previously enjoyed an excellent talk given by Chris and this topic will give us a very enjoyable end to 2023.
At this first meeting of the year, we will have great pleasure in welcoming Martin McDowell to give a presentation on DNA in Family History. Martin is the Education Officer of the Northern Ireland Family History Society and the DNA specialist with the Family History Federation. He is very keen to promote the extensive use of DNA for genealogical purposes. Discover why testing at Ancestry alone is not enough.
We welcome Linda Hammond. Help! What do I do before 1837? Researching your ancestors before civil registration. Linda’s presentation will be packed with useful information. There are many records before civil registration and censuses which can help your research before 1837. We will look at the records available to you and through an analysis of actual record samples, follow a family from the 1850s back through to the 1700s
Debbie Bradley, a professional genealogist with a keen interest in suffrage, will make a presentation on the Suffragette and Suffragist Movements. Debbie will explain how they started and introduce some of the people involved in the early groups. She will advise how to find and research your suffragette ancestors and provide information about some prominent ladies who campaigned to obtain the vote for all women.
NNWFHS will be at The Family History Show, Malvern.
We will welcome David Paterson to our hybrid meeting at Horeston Grange which will be relayed via Zoom for those unable to attend. David has a new presentation and he has very kindly adapted it especially for our society to tell the story of a local family history story. Doors open 7.15pm and Zoom by 7.30pm, technicalities allowing.
From May to August. Visits to churches and historic sites are at the planning stage. Notification of dates and locations will be published ASAP. As is normal practice, meeting reports will be in the journals for members who cannot attend in person.
From September onwards, our winter series of Zoom meetings will begin again.
