NNWFHS Meetings & Events

All members receive our free Quarterly Journal with interesting and informative articles on local places and people, a notice board for help wanted and offered, and forthcoming events etc.
Members' Interests
On joining the Society, members are invited to submit their Surname Interests which are then uploaded on to the Members' Surname Interests section of the website, to help members share information on common ancestral trees.  As research progresses, members may update their interests whenever they wish, by contacting the Membership Secretary.  Anyone visiting the website will have access to the full list of surnames our members are researching and may wish to make contact.  Members' contact details are available to members only and are provided by contacting the membership secretary.

Members wishing to advise us of any changes of personal details or surname interests should contact the Membership Secretary.
A collaborative venture with S&N Genealogy allows us to offer our (E, individual & family) members unlimited access to the baptism, marriage and burial entries which have been transcribed by NNWFHS and which are available on the S&N /FHS-online website.  Subscription to this site will run concurrent with the annual membership subscription.  The cost of access via the Society will be £10 per annum (worth up to £60). If you wish to take up the offer of access, please contact Dr Carole Eales.
Meetings & Help Desks
We hold regular research/ speaker meetings and help desks. For full details please visit our Meetings, Events & Help Desks page. Members are entitled to a reduced entrance fee for all of our meetings.
This website has a 'members only' area which all members can access using their log in and password (this is issued to all new members in their joining pack).  The Photos and Pictures Gallery also contains some images, such as those in the 'War Memorials' gallery, which are only accessible to members. The members only area contains copies of recent Journals, plus a number of research and other resources including: several searchable databases; a presentation on how to start your family history; a downloadable/ printable booklet to help you begin to record your own family history; information on civil registration and Church of England parish registers for North Warwickshire; a pdf version of our booklet Discovering Your Roots in Nuneaton and North Warwickshire - A Guide for New Researchers; articles on the various towns and villages in our area; transcriptions from a Workhouses Project and our War Memorials Project. Additional pages are being added regularly. For more information or questions about the website and its content click here to email us.
On joining new members receive a paper or pdf copy of "Discovering Your Roots in and Around Nuneaton & North Warwickshire" - a guide for new researchers.
Members receive a discount on all NNWFHS publications purchased via Parish Chest. The link for this is on the front page of the website.
Microfiche Hire
Unfortunately, we are no longer able to offer the microfiche hire service.  However, all the Monumental Inscription fiche we hold have been indexed and the index placed on the Members' Pages.
We organise and participate in a variety of local Open Day events each year to which society members and the public are welcome. There are usually displays of local and family history material and photographs and, occasionally, speakers and slideshow presentations.  There are also book and CD stalls and a Help Desk when volunteers are available. We encourage members to display their own research.
Research Service & E-Helpdesk
We will try to answer both general and specific queries on all aspects of family history and we also offer a limited research service, for members only, of the society’s records and those held by Nuneaton library.  For details please contact our E-Helpdesk.
We encourage reciprocal research amongst our members.  Members are also invited to take part in our current transcription projects; for further information please contact the Membership Secretary.
Help Wanted & Offered
Members can place requests for help or offers of help in the Help Wanted / Offered page on the Noticeboard pages of this website, or in our quarterly Journal. Particularly useful for those 'brick walls' or for specific individuals for whom you are searching.
