Location

North-east of Glascote and south-west of Shuttington, now absorbed into Tamworth.

Village and Church History

Known as Amington & Stoneydelph until 1935 it was a township within the ecclesiastical ancient parish of Tamworth. The Amington St Editha C of E Parish Church is a chapel-of-ease within Tamworth parish.

Amington is thought to be Ermendone of the Domesday Book of 1086 as held by William son of Corbucion. Stoneydelph first occurs in 1203 as the name of an assart in Wilnecote.

Amington was in Tamworth district from 1837-1932 and Sutton Coldfield district from 1932 to 1965

There are no known existing household lists prior to 1841. 1841 to 1911 censuses are available online on various subscription or pay-to-view websites. Several census years for Warwickshire, along with other data provided by volunteers, are freely available online at Pickard’s Pink Pages. The 1881 census for whole of British Isles is freely available online at www.familysearch.org. North Warwickshire Libraries have online access to the census records, additionally, some local libraries hold facsimile hard copies for their immediate area.
