  • Born 22 May 1876 at St Albans, Herts
  • Educated at St Alban’s Grammar School and Greenwich College
  • Gazetted 2nd Lt 1 Feb 1894
  • Promoted to Lt 1 Jan 1895
  • Promoted to Capt 10 Oct 1900
  • Served on HMS Alexandra, and various Australian ships and bases then in the Mediterranean
  • Retired in 1905 and moved to British Columbia, Canada where he raised the 1st East Kootenay Contingent at the outbreak of war
  • Ordered to return to England and joined HMS Formidable on 16 Nov 1914
  • Killed on 1 Jan 1915 when HMS Formidable was torpedoed in the English Channel
