1901 Census living at 12 Pool Bank Street, Nuneaton with his parents, siblings and grandmother. His father was employed as a Railway Ticket Examiner
1911 Census living at 48 Edward Street, Chilvers Coton, Nuneaton with his parents and siblings. He was employed as a Boot Shop Assistant. His father was employed as a Railway ticket inspector.
14th July 1916 his death was reported, in detail, in the Nuneaton Observer, as he was killed instantly with his commanding officer, Captain Murray. The report contains part of a letter sent from the remaining brother, Oswald – a short extract:
“Bernard was acting orderly to Captain Murray on the morning they were hit by the shell. They had been going round the trenches and SUDDENLY A SHELL BURST between them. Captain Murray seems to have got the full force of the explosion, but both were killed instantly.”
