Circumstance of Joseph’s Death – from the Coventry Standard 5th March 1915.     SOLDIER KILLED BY TRAIN

After serving with the Royal Warwicks at the front and being wounded, Private Joseph Clarke, of Stockingford, Nuneaton has returned home only to be accidentally killed on the railway at Milverton Station, Warwick. He had only recently been discharged from Aberdeen Hospital, in Scotland, and, with others, had reported himself at Budbrooke Barracks, Warwickshire, and been granted leave. From the evidence at the inquest on Monday afternoon, it appears that the deceased, who was going home, on getting to the top of the stairs leading to the station platform, saw the Birmingham train moving out, and ran to get into it. He caught hold of the carriage handle, but fell between the carriage and the platform, the train passing over his head. A verdict of Accidental death was recorded.
