• Born in Monks Kirby and baptised 13 Jan 1881 at St Edith’s.
• In 1911 he may have been a groom at Astley Castle

  The Citation for the D.C.M. in the London Gazette states:  “For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty.  When an advanced guard came under heavy fire from hidden positions he boldly rode forward to locate the guns, and by drawing their fire he was able to disclose their approximate position.  He showed magnificent courage and determination.”
