War Memorials – Mancetter

The parish of Mancetter and its two main hamlets – Hartshill and Atherstone – each erected war memorials to commemorate those who lost their lives in WWI and WWII.

The memorial plaque for Mancetter is inside the church and remembers twenty-six men from WWI and six from WWII. The WWI inscription reads as follows:

This tablet was erected by the Parishioners and other members of the congregation in honoured and grateful
memory of the brave men who nobly gave their lives for our King and country in the Great War.

The WWII inscription reads as follows:

Sacred to the memory of the men of this parish and congregation who
laid down their lives in the world war.

The Hartshill and Atherstone memorials have their own separate pages on the website.

One website worthy of mention is the Mancetter parish website. The local parish council received a grant from the Armed Forces Covenant towards producing a booklet remembering all those who died in WWI. This thirty-two-page booklet can be downloaded for free and contains comprehensive details of servicemen including some photos, battle timelines and accounts of certain prominent offensives in the Great War.  Well worth reading.

Needs photos and Excel sheet AND please add in the link to the Mancetter parish website.
