This transcription project began in 2008. Since then volunteers have photographed and transcribed the names of all North Warwickshire men who are commemorated on the memorials in each parish.
In addition, where possible, the basic details of every man who made the final sacrifice in WWI have been researched and can be seen on the man’s individual war record page on the website. The information shows name, rank, number and the regiment in which he served – and in some cases names of previous regiments in which he served. This is followed by details of where and when he died, his burial place, and where he is commemorated. In addition there is a list of medals awarded.
There are links on each man’s individual page to the regiments named and the CWGC details too. Finally, there are basic details of his birth, his parent’s names, possibly his wife’s name and then each man’s occupation in 1911, taken from the 1911 census.
Sometimes it has not been possible to locate all the details of a man whose name is inscribed on a parish memorial – indeed, in a few cases, no details have been found at all. If you can help us fill the gaps, then please do contact us. We would be delighted to hear from you.
They shall not grow old as we who are left grow old.
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning,
We will remember them.
